ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design. Over the past two years, LEED has become the top
standard for environmental building in North America providing a comprehensive
building rating system based on proven standards and strategies. Cedar Corner
is embracing the LEED approach, which covers over 69 different aspects of building
and design. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Over

WATER EFFICIENCY
The world is running out of fresh water, and even Tofino, with 3.6 metres of rainfall
a year, experiences water shortages in the summer. The Cedar Corner building will
use water as efficiently as possible by utilizing rainwater storage, dual-flush
toilets, waterless urinals, and efficient faucets and showerheads. Please click
on the following links to view the quality water-efficient products we will be
using at Cedar Corner:
- dual flush toilets from Caroma
- urinals that work completely without water or flush valves from Waterless
Co.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
92% of our energy In British Columbia comes from dams, and 8% from natural gas.
All new energy demand is met with natural gas; a fossil fuel that releases Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) when burnt. CO2 is the
main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. At Cedar Corner, our aim is
to make the building as efficient as possible by careful design. Our energy efficient
windows, heat pumps, grey-water heat recovery, a range-hood fan sensor, automated
energy monitoring, efficient lighting and appliances, and good energy habits will
set a high standard for buildings of its kind anywhere.
ELECTRICITY
Electromagnetic fields (EMF) from electrical circuits and appliances have been
shown to be harmful. We have reduced them by careful design.
