Cedar Corner August 2005
Cedar Corner, at the entrance to beautiful Tofino, BC is an 8500 Sq/ft building
designed and constructed using the LEED (Leadership in Energy Environmental Design)
Process.
With a goal to create a healthier building for the environment, workers, and
customers, Cedar Corner is setting an example of sustainable design and building
practices in Tofino and beyond.
Some of the exciting features include 100% used, salvaged and/or FSC-certified
wood for construction, hot water and air heat recovery systems, rain water flushed
toilets, and more.

| What
is the LEED Process? |
|
| |
LEED stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design". |
|
| |
LEED is to modern "green" buildings
what Organic Certification Standards is to food. |
|
| |
LEED is a certification process awarding bronze, silver,
gold or platinum ratings based on a 69 point analysis of a development's design
principles, building materials and construction processes. |
|
| |
The LEED process was designed with office buildings in
mind... a restaurant has yet to achieve above a bronze rating. |

| What
does LEED
have to do with Tofino? |
|
| |
Tofino is part of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere
Reserve. To us it makes sense that Cedar Corner be a working model of sound ecological
design in a region committed to preservation and sustainability. |
